The Super Bowl Official Car
The history of WMOX is replete with great stories and in many of those stories, Eddie was the instigator, though to hear him tell it, he was almost always innocent. The Super Bowl Official Car is one of those great stories.
Superbowl Sunday, 1972 in New Orleans and the lines for cab rides to the game were long. Eddie didn’t feel like waiting. “Where’s my car” he said to the Marriott Hotel doorman. The doorman said “one second, sir” and then snapped his fingers. In an instant, a car was pulled up, the doors opened, and Eddie Smith and 2 companions, Len Maith and Angus Lind, headed to the Superbowl in one of the autos reserved for the NFL officials. Apparently, the doorman assumed that these three were actually part of the NFL management. Take a close look at the picture above and ask yourself if you would have made the same mistake?
