Marcus Dupree 30 for 30

By

Marcus Dupree

In 1981, college athletic recruiting changed forever as a dozen big-time football programs sat waiting for the decision by a physically powerful and lightning-quick high school running back named Marcus Dupree. On his way to eclipsing Herschel Walker’s record for the most touchdowns in high school history, Dupree attracted recruiters from schools in every major conference to his hometown of Philadelphia, Miss. More than a decade removed from being a flashpoint in the civil-rights struggle, Philadelphia was once again thrust back into the national spotlight. Dupree took the attention in stride, and committed to Oklahoma. What followed, though, was a forgettable college career littered with conflict, injury and oversized expectations. Eight-time Emmy Award winner Jonathan Hock will examine why this star burned out so young and how he ultimately used football to redeem himself.

Awesome Character He had hardly any social skills hardly any education in handling the business end of football yet he dropped out after a concusion/ mind you , no coach sent him to the hospital/ AND after a serious hamstring, knee injury, and weight gain probably, a side effect from depression/WOW! POW! He came back and got in the NFL/ I am so glad he fufilled his dream/ he credits his Mom, GrandMother, and being an example to his little brother Reggie as his major motivators/ i say God Bless the Best running back who ever was/YES! retitle that sucker/ Marcus Dupree was too hot for Okalahoma to handle & physically they did not give him the proper medical or mental treatment he required?i am motivated by his story to fufill my dreams,also/ THANK YOU MARCUS DUPREE!You are an AWESOME former NFL football player!

Thanks for airing this show. After being recruited heavily and having gone through a similar situation where I was injured my last year of college. I can relate to Marcus being satisfied with making his come back. After two major shoulder surgeries, I played 3 games in the Arena Football League 3 years later and walked away satisfied. I knew then I was as good, if not better than most of the players in the NFL. Like most other things in this world, timing and luck play such a HUGE role in making it though a long career in the NFL. I only wish I could sit down and have a beer with Marcus to say, “Hey man, I know exactly where your coming from”. Thank you for putting this show together. Merry Christmas.

Any idea how I can get in touch with marcus Dupree? Id love to talk to him. This story really hit home with me. I”d be willing to travel to meet him even if for a short visit. I am NOT involved in Media or any kind of production. Just an honest hard working person who has had to sustain a lot of pitfalls in my life as well. pass on my email if need be. Thanx.
