MSO Announces its 49th SeasonBy
The Meridian Symphony Association will announce its 2009-2010 concert season Tuesday, August 11 at 5pm in the Grand Lobby of the MSU Riley Center. Thomas Sherwood, Principal Percussionist of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and guest artist for the October 31 concert, will be present to demonstrate Tan Dun’s Water Percussion Concerto. Sherwood, who has performed with symphony orchestras around the globe, has received critical acclaim for his water percussion performances.
In addition to its traditional series, MSO is thrilled to include a new tradition,
its Peppermint Pops concert in December, immediately following the Christmas Parade in downtown Meridian. This year’s Peppermint Pops concert will be a delightful evening of holiday music, featuring the Meridian Symphony Orchestra, MSO Chorus and the Meridian Cambiata Singers. Joining the MSO orchestra players this season is an extraordinary line-up of guests artists, including John Wenberg, the Principal Bassoonist for the Mississippi Symphony and the Meridian Symphony Orchestras; Thomas Sherwood, the Principal Percussionist (water percussion) for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; John Luther Adams, a Meridian native now residing in Anchorage, Alaska and making his homecoming debut with the MSO; and Elena Urioste, a violinist who has been hailed by critics and audiences alike for her rich tone and commanding stage presence.
