The Sucarnochee Revue Radio Program comes back to Meridian, Mississippi’s Temple Theatre 7:00 p.m. September 4, Friday night for a “Rockabilly and Street Rods” show featuring Rockabilly Hall of Famers, Rayburn Anthony and C.W. Gatlin. Other performers include Alex Goldman, Chase Cooksey, Skylar Hardin, and Track 45. Also included are regular cast members,Mississippi Chris Sharp, J. Burton Fuller, Jacky Jack White,the Stage Hands, and Britt Gully. Everyone attending is encouraged to “dress retro” for the concert, according to producer/host Jacky Jack White. “The Sucarnochee Revue is family friendly entertainment and it’s all about having a good time.”
Rayburn Anthony recorded on Sam Phillip’s Sun Records during 1959-1960. Rayburn remembers Elvis Presley would drop by the studio sometimes usually when he and his friends were renting the local roller rink or the movie theatre. The Sun roster included at various times Elvis, Roy Orbison, Charlie Rich, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, and many other influential Rockabilly, and Country artists. Rayburn’s biggest hit was a rocking version of “St. Louis Blues”. Later, Rayburn moved to Nashville and toured with Bobby Bare, and Billy Walker while penning hit songs such as, “Sing Me a Love Song to Baby”.
C. W. Gatlin was born in Phillips County, Delta, Arkansas. C.W.’s mom, aunt and uncle played music. Gatlin says, “I’ve played guitar all my natural born life. My first band was me and and my guitar.” Artists like Mack Self, Robert Nighthawk and Houston Stackhouse taught C.W. rockabilly and blues. C.W. Gatlin was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame as a top lead guitarist.
